Michelle Says:
I have a 13 year old daughter who has the very same disorder. This has not stopped her from becoming a remarkable young lady. He has the oppertunity to open they eyes of others and show them that just because you don't have hair you can still be successfull. My daughter dances in her school dance team and has lost more than 75% of her hair many times. Use what God gives us for the good...Don't be ashamed of Alopecia....let it work for you!

Jasmine Says:
I have suffered from this disorder after the birth of my last child. Steroid injections on my scalp helped my hair grow back. But I totally understand how much it can impact one's life. Hopefully this young man can get the treatment he needs and get back to making music,

felicia Says:
My niece also has this disorder it was heartbreaking to see her as a young child going through this. But it has defiantly made her who she is and now is proud of her mostly bald head rather than ashamed.

Nellie Says:
My son has the same condition and he is young and learning to cope with it. He is a very strong football and basketball player, I admire him for not letting this get him down. It's hair, it could be a limb or worse. Please don't be a victim to this disease. Shave it off and keep it off and love who you are. Free yourself from people and trust in God and ask him for the strength to deal, you are fine.

DimeWars Guest Says:
that was a very encouraging comment. I am 43 years old and I have had alopecia since the fall of 2000. I've finally decided to take off the wig and nolonge be ashamed, begin to educate people on the signs of this order so that they can get help.

My head had more spots than hair, so I just shaved my head and let the empty spots make a design. There is really no hiding if you have alopecia. It is not healthy to hide. Be bold and transcend the ego that limits your creativity.

I've had this myself. It takes a lot for a young person to overcome.

Some people just don't deal with embarrassment as this disease. I know I had it for a couple of years and took the steriod shot in scalp as well as biotin and it stop the loss but it did grow back silver. Oh well. Women says it makes me look more distinguished.

Ive had Alopecia for 30 years. It was devastating @15 yrs old but realizing that I must count my blessings than losses I overcame the isolation & depression. Once I started to love myself others loved me more and admired my bravery. Its only hair!!! Im 45 yrs old now and Im still a proud lovely loving Latina and God loves me .Thats all I need hair comes & goes thats why we have extensions & wigs fix it and keep Living. David, my hair growing back is coming in silver as well.there are some strands that are black others are silver. i'm a 27yr old female.i think its kind of cool but at least its coming back and the disorder is nothing to be ashamed of.

Ms. Obvious Says:
Why doesn't he just shave his head. It's not like nobody has ever seen a bald man before. Especially these days. Bald is "in". I'm just sayin'.
6/30/2010 4:28 PM
DimeWars Guest Says:
I've had it 3 times--I was a teacher and one day a tall student was standing by me and said, "Good Lord, she's bald!" The spot was golf-ball size. I had shots and it grew back every time, one time white then finally brown. It is embarrassing. When golfing, since the wind blows it every which way I spray it a lot or wear my visor.

Is this Alopecia areata, or simply Androgenic alopecia?
6/30/2010 4:45 PM
DimeWars Guest Says:
Yeah i was wondering about the "but more importantly" remark. Like the only thing anyone needs to know is Chris Kelly couldn't make a come back!
6/30/2010 4:46 PM
Rob Says:
Yeah man just shave it all off and go au natural. Look at Montel Williams and Michael Jordan. Heck, people will just think you're making a fashion statement. No need to have the same funny looking hairdo you had during the 80's - I don't think anyone would expect you to.
6/30/2010 4:46 PM
DimeWars Guest Says:
I am a 45 year old women now,i came down with this disease at age 10.I had hair growing all the way down my back, and to lose all of it and be a young black girl when nobody understood what was wrong with me was pretty awful, but i got threw it it is not the end of the world.I have been happily married with four children and seven great grandchildren and they love me,even though i do not have my hair. There is a link to this disease and having thyroid problems so if you are new to this have your thyroid checked,if you have a child who is new to this have their thyroid checked. There are also some beautiful lace front wigs that let you goon with your life, they are attached by glue or special tape and people do not know that you are wearing a wig,i hope this information helps anyone who is going through this disease,it also has been found to be hereditary.

Almost certainly the real problem is undiagnosed or mis-treated thyroid condition. Hardly any docs understand this condition, and the lab tests are often misleading because they are "measured against" so called healthy people, who include millions of undiagnosed hypo-thyroid sufferers! Insist on a doc who will work with you and NATURAL ANIMAL THYROID meds (which are cheapest ever as they are byproducts of pork production!). You will be amazed. Doc won't make hardly any money, but you will be healthy! Ask your pharmacist if he carries Armour natural animal thyroid tablets & if local docs prescribe it. Then go to your doc and tell him that's what you want to try! Keep dose low til you are sure you are being treated right! Thousands on the internet are saying the same thing! Best of luck.

I can understand a woman considering this problem a disease-but a man! Get over yourself dude, shave it all off, by a wig, do whatever you please but don't use that as a crutch. I am 30 and have had Alopecia Universalis since I was 12. I have never worn a wig, a bandana while I was in highschool. Now I just go bald. I just wish other people would get over it, it is just hair and thats all. I have been through this for years and I know it sucks. You need to keep in mind atleast you are otherwise healthy. Just hair and that you can live without! <3

I am a 47 year old who has suffered from this disease since i was 7 years old. I pray that i will reach the place that you all have reached. I am still very embarassed by my hair loss and try to hide it. I live in the deep south and it is very uncomfortable to wear a wig in this heat. I know bald can be beautiful but i just can't seem to put myself out there yet. Even at my age i feel as if everyone would laugh at me if they see me without a wig. Pray for me.

I have had Alopecia since elementary school. It started out as Areata and now as a 48 year old female, married for the second time and have a set of 11 year old beautiful twins, I have lived with Alopecia Universalis. I have tried shots in the head, prothesis (which are very expensive), scarfs, wigs with double-sided tape and quick weaves. I am now considering the lace front wigs. Tif, I want to be just like you when I grow up. :) I have considered going bald, but chicken out every time. My husband and family love me very much. They encourage and support me with whatever decision that I make. Chris, keep your spirits up, trust in GOD and he will guide you in the direction that you should go. Get back to your music. Bald is Beautiful!GOD is an awesome GOD and he love us dearly!

I have alopecia and have had it for 20 years. I refuse to let it define who I am. It always upsets me when people with cancer say..."the worst part was losing my hair". I say...wouldn't it be worse realistically to lose your life? So Mr. Kriss Kross, I empathise with you...but get on with your life...if people loved you when you sang with hair they will love you when you sing without...don't just preform behind the scenes...get out there on the stage where you should be. I'm dissappointed in you....so please fix that will you!

Uhh....yeah, not the hair problem thats keeping him from making a comeback. Why doesn't he just shave his head? Or wear a hat? Tupac, Bruce Williss, Andre Agassi, Jason Statham....all are incredibly successful entertainers who are or were bald. That's just off the top of my head.

Something else is keeping him back....who the f cares about HAIR when you can wear so many accessories in the rap world? Or when shaved heads are cool anyways?
6/30/2010 6:55 PM
Ken Says:
Come on....you mean to tell me that someone with this talent is hiding because of alopecia? My son has had it since he was 6. He is now totally bald, no eyebrows and no eye lashes. He has never let anyone tell him he is any different than those of us with hair. He was a varsity cross country mountain bike letter winner, he is a bass player in a band, he was an all-conference soccer player, he has a great job at a golf course, he is dating a beautiful ex-cheerleader, and he has just finished his first year in college; and all without one hair on his body. It's my son's hope that he can be a positive influence to others with this disease. Kriss Kross needs to realize that hair does not make the person. I agree with Karole who so states that this disease will not define one's life. And finally when people say they are having a bad hair day, my son says he has a bad hair day every day....and in spite of it all he lives his life to the fullest each and every day.

Sinead O'Connor, Demi Moore and Natalie Portman did not rock the bald look because they had a disease. In this society, being a bald woman is not easy. (There are many men who are not comfortable with going bald either. Ever heard of a toupee, or The Hair Club?) I empathize with "Not There Yet". I live in the south as well, and it is very uncomfortable to wear a wig in the heat. Most of the comments here are sympathetic to this condition; however on a day-to-day basis, it is not easy to go bald and be proud; people not familiar with this affliction can be very cold blooded with their comments. I will not answer the door without my wig on. When I see a woman with a shaved head, I admire the strength and character that it takes to sport that look. Maybe one day I will be blessed to be that strong.

lol@dudemanj How dare you be able to interpret what you read? There is no way for the so called "writer" to excuse that mess. I dont care if the editor was fired before the printing of this. If she/he were not so limited (cerebrally) then they could have been more creative and less callous in leading up to the story. However consider the source and what this... is! We live in a "lookist" society and everything you do revolves around that especially those in the entertainment industry. I feel badly for that young man and if he isnuncomfortable with subjecting himself to the public scrutiny then ...ok there are other ways to make a living. I am asure though he appreciates the support of those who offer it though!

Is he using Alopecia as an excuse for not being able to make a comeback? Perhaps the problem goes deeper, like who cares.
My sister has total alopecia and is a very successful person dealing with hundreds of people daily. She wears a wig at work, NOT for vanity, but the sad look people give her thinking her hair loss is due to chimo therapy. Otherwise at home she'll sport a cool bandana.
Kriss Kross's wild little tuff goes nowhere...go bald rather than try to hold on to what you don't have. He wouldn't sell a CD with that little mangy effort on the cover, even if it was the best thing he eve did. I suspect he's blaming his lack of hair for lack of talent.

It is not for anyone to decide or tell someone else how to feel. Some look good with a shaved head, obviously it won't work for others. Some people have severe acne, or Rosecea (?) or a short arm, or birth marks, missing teeth, any host of odd maladies, just try not to judge people on looks. Some people look fantastic, but you would not hire them to do the simplest job because they have relied on their looks all there lives. They don't have any basic common sense.

I had had Alopecia since the 8th grade. I was a high school school basketball star in my state. I wore baseball caps as much as I could (everywhere except the basketball court and church). I went on to play college and professional ball in europe. This was before the bald trend began. I would get called everything from "Mr. Clean to Kareem Abdual Jabar.
I ended up losing all my hair and it is amazing that the teasing and joking helped me become a stronger person. I believe as long as you are confident and a good person on the inside, people will look past the no hair and no eyebrows and see the persons inside. To anyone that has this disease, and is struggling with it, just remember that having no hair on the outside does not change who you are on the inside.

There are conditions which can cause alopecia. Low thyroid is one, but also low ferritin levels or low iron levels. Ask your doctor to check your ferritin and thyroid levels. You can easily take Fe over the counter if your levels are low. If it is thyroid you will need a prescription. It is worth checking out.

I have had alopecia areata totalis for a number of years now. I am also the biological mother of 2 and the stepmother of 4. They all could care less whether Mommy/Emy has hair or not. The scary part of this disorder is that I also teach 7th graders, the most judgemental age that there is....I refuse to wear wigs as I lose "me" in the mirror. I have found over the years that the more open I am, the more people see me as normal, and that includes my 7th graders. People with this affliction need to make others understand that there is nothing wrong with us! We are not contagious, we are not sick....we just lose our hair. BIG DEAL!!! Hair is nothing compared to what we could be losing!!!! Don't feel sorry for us! Rejoice that there is nothing seriously wrong! And the bonus is the air conditioning in the summer :-)

I started losing my hair 9 yrs ago from this disorder. At 35, I am still embarrassed and refuse to be seen w/o a wig. Its difficult being in relationships and hurtful when men rule out women b/c they wear wigs and consider them fake. I wish more men understood not all women wear wigs to keep up with the latest fashion. I wish I could wear my own hair, but sadly shots, biotin and nothing else have worked....While this condition comes with issues, this certainly shouldn't stop Chris from a comeback. Like previous posts, I think shaving it all off is more acceptable for men. This may be just a talent issue here. This line is funny, "still has his spirits up", as if he had cancer or something...lol
